Fat Free Vegan Brownie!

Believe it! This is a 100% fat free vegan brownie made with applesauce instead of fats. The texture was acceptable for the fact that these are fat free but it is not fudgey. It is more cake like but pretty nice to eat. Hubby and I ate the whole pan and it was sooo sinless! Got the recipe from here.

Hi Halimah,

Form your experience in eggless baking, do you know if it's possible to substitute mashed banana for the applesauce?

Thanks

Hi Cookie,

So far, I have found that banana works well in banana flavoured baked products like banana cakes. The problem is that because the aroma and the taste of banana is quite strong that if you were to use it in delicate flavoured cakes like vanilla/green tea cakes u'll have a problem. However, I think chocolate can mask most of the smell and taste.

Applesauce is usually used as a fat replacer rather than egg replacer. Other than banana, u can also try using ground flaxseeds and water. It really whisks up very well but again adds a nutty texture to your products. U can have a look at this http://www.pioneerthinking.com/eggsub.html

Hi Halimah,

Thanks for sharing your experience. After baking for so long, I am still looking for a trusty eggless non-chocolate cake recipe.

Cheers
