Oh Gosh! About a Month since I blogged!!

Dear Me,
I didn't realise my blog was dying... It has been about a month since my last entry.. Was busy churning out assignments and doing tuitions (All right... these are all lame excuses..) Actually, I have been doing some stuff... Just never got around to taking photos and worse still uploading them...
Anyway, again a photographic journey of what I have been up to...
Finally Got Myself an Oven... Hubby brought me to Mustafa.. and about $260 poorer... but happier.. I have got myself a 'Big Moma Oven' 42L Tecno Oven.. the biggest there was... But, it sure does take up alot of counter space... sadly!

Since, I got my hands on this monstrous baby.. I wish I could say that I have been industriously baking... but alas.. not quite.. I am using but not as much as I would like....
Well... This is the first cake I made with the oven...A Vegan Orange Cake!

I wish I could say that this cake was a big success... but alas, it was not quite what I wanted it to be... Somehow... Most vegan cakes just don't scratch up to normal cakes with the sinful butter and richness of the eggs and depth of the milk... No offense to any vegans.... This cake had very nice flavour because there was the zest of the orange in it, so it smelt great... but I found that the soy milk sort of overwhelmed the taste and it was sticky in the mouth.. Too bad we don't have Earth balance here.. I would really love to give it a go....

wow...you got me so tempted with your new oven. 42L and it's only less than $300?? Would you mind giving me the dimension of the oven? Need to see if I have any countertop space to house that. How do you find the oven so far? Temperature even?

Thanks! :)

Hi KWF,

this is my first table top oven... prior to this, i used to use my mum's built in oven... So, one thing i didn't quite like was the exposed heating element which you can't see in the built in types.

But the benefit is that you don't have to wait for preheating and I like this because can control the heating elements, top, bottom and fan, grill etc...

The measurements are 18 inches wide by 10 inches height (heating element to heating element) that's about 46cm by 26cm. (This is the internal diameter) I think you add a couple of inches to it for the legs and dials.

So far, I can use whatever pans that I have used in my mum's built in oven. The actual price is about $263 (I think). When to Mustafa to buy it, it was the biggest they had, the brand is tecno.

So, far I have baked cakes and roasted chicken and potatoes... It's all good... but I know you bake bread and I haven't tried that yet, so I can't recommend it to you. The browning and cooking is even as you can see from the cake pics. I got no complains....

One tip that the lady as Mustafa gave me was that don't buy an oven with doors that open downwards. It will be hard for you to reach in to take things or if the hinges are not strong can damage the door.

Good luck!

Thanks halimah! This looks like a great buy. I'm so tempted to get one, but won't know what to do with my current 2 smaller ovens. :(

I also had to throw out my toaster, exchange my microwave convection oven for a much smaller microwave with my mum before i could buy this. It does take up counter space but I think it is worth it... I stay in a 3RM flat... so you can imagine how cramp it will be (also made the kitchen smaller during renovation! now, kicking myself!)

Why not try cash converters? Or e-bay or our very own KC?
